what i’m reading
“Same As It Ever Was” by Clare Lombardo
definitely a bit of a slow burn, but this giant book does an incredible job illustrating the intricacies of the complications that are inherent with any relationship, especially among family members. i always appreciate a realistic view on motherhood, and the apathy that the main character sometimes shows towards her children is refreshing (albeit slightly depressing). nearing the end of this behemoth, can’t wait to see what the climax brings.
“Illustrated Guide to Pacific Coast Tide Pools” by Marni Fylling
with a very curious and nature-lover 1-year-old in the house, i am constantly trying to find ways to bring education to our favorite activities. santa cruz has some of the best tide pools in the area, and i know NOTHING about what i’m actually seeing when we go exploring. this book is such a welcome addition to my growing local knowledge library, and the illustrations are great for keeping the toddler’s attention (especially when i make little pinching motions with the crabs page!)
